DAZZLED PROJECT

Dazzled est une installation collective réalisée par Hélène Bellenger, Margot Millet et Valia Russo. Cette installation questionne la manière dont les nouvelles technologies et les réseaux sociaux modifient notre rapport au visage, à l’autoportrait et à la représentation de soi en ligne.
Le visage est en effet support privilégié pour comprendre la sensibilité d’une époque et la façon dont elle se réfléchit elle-même, en particulier à travers les portraits, longtemps réservés à une aristocratie, avant l’apparition de la photographie au milieu du XIXe siècle. (...) Aujourd’hui pixelisés, hyperexposés, médiatisés à outrance, les visages sur écrans semblent répondre à une double contrainte : celle du buzz et d’une pulsion scopique poussée jusqu’à l’ivresse. S’intéresser aux interfaces de l’intime aujourd’hui, c’est donc prendre acte du déplacement du concept d’intimité vers des zones entre-deux. Parce que l’intime se tourne vers le dehors, s’expose dans un jeu de montré-caché, et une volonté de communiquer sur son monde intérieur, les visages apparaissent comme une interface privilégiée pour penser ces rapports. Interface entre le moi et l’autre, l’intime et l’extime, le dedans et le dehors, ils apparaissent comme le lieu d’une intimité médiatisée, liant étroitement ce qu’il y a de plus profond et ce qui affleure à la surface dans le domaine public.
Interpellé·e·s par ces questions, Hélène Bellenger, Margot Millet et Valia Russo ont initié une collection de selfies. Glanés méticuleusement sur internet et le réseaux sociaux, les selfies avec flash dans le miroir montrent une partie du visage et la font disparaître à la fois. Réunis à la manière d’une constellation de flash ou d’étoiles, ces images noient les individualités de ces autoportraits dan le paterne de ces représentations que l’on trouve par millier sur les réseaux sociaux.
(EN) Dazzled is a collective installation created by Hélène Bellenger, Valia Russo and Margot Millet. This installation questions how new technologies and social media are changing our relationship to the face, self-portraiture and self-repre- sentation online.
The face is indeed a privileged medium for understanding the sensitivity of an era and the way it reflects itself, in particular through portraits, long reserved for an aristocracy, before the appearance of photography in the middle of the 19th century. (...) Today pixelated, hyperexposed, excessively publicized, the faces on screens seem to respond to a double constraint: that of the buzz and of a scopic drive pushed to the point of intoxication. Being interested in the “interfaces of intimacy” today
is therefore to take note of the displacement of the concept of intimacy towar- ds zones in between. Because the intimate turns outwards, exposes itself in a show-hidden game, and a desire to communicate about its inner world, faces appear as a privileged interface for thinking about these relationships. Interface between the self and the other, the intimate and the « extimate », the inside and the outside, they appear as the place of a mediated intimacy, closely linking what is deepest and what is flush with the surface in the public domain.
Challenged by these questions, Hélène Bellenger, Margot Millet and Valia Russo initiated a collection of selfies. Meticulously gleaned from the internet and social media, mirror flash selfies show part of the face and make it disappear at the same time. Gathered together like a constellation of flashes (or stars), these images drown the individualities of these self-portraits in the patern of these representations that are found by the thousand on social networks.
